The Dobcross Village Society held its first Annual Members’ Meeting (AMM) - for all members, supporters, and residents - on Sunday 14th September 2025 at the Band Club.

It was fantastic to see so much community spirit in action!
Here are some highlights from the meeting:
- Share membership will soon be even more accessible. The entry level has been reduced to just £25 (still one member = one vote). Once the change is approved by the FCA, it will open the door for more villagers to get involved. In the meantime, you can register your interest by email or by leaving your phone number at the shop.
- The committee stays strong. Five existing members were re-elected, but we’d love more helping hands! Treasurer and Secretary positions are open – could it be you?
- A successful first year. Thanks to our amazing staff and volunteers, sales are healthy. But remember, it’s always a “use it or lose it” situation. Every pint, pie and paper you buy makes a difference.
We’re proud to support 20+ local suppliers within a 10 mile radius. Keeping it local is what we’re all about.
Next meeting: October 15th, 7pm at The Swan.
Please note this meeting is for committee members and for anyone who is interested in joining the committee to help run the shop.
Together, we’ve saved our shop. Now let’s grow it!

You don’t need to give much time, the hard work has been done by the original crew, but if you can spare a little time, have lots of ideas, or simply want to be part of something wonderful then we need you!

Co-operation in the community and beyond
On 6th April 2024, the Dobcross Village Store and Post Office became a community-owned co-operative. (Dobcross Village Society Ltd.)
Thanks to the generous contributions from our residents and supporters, Dobcross village store continues to provide a vital community service for the people of Dobcross, our Saddleworth neighbours, and visitors.
We are very grateful to be 'Funded by the UK Government' thanks to a successful grant application, which has helped with the store's refurbishment (February 2025).
Open seven days a week for your everyday essentials, postal and banking services, and more. We are a community co-operative venture, here to serve our local community with a smile. Pop in, do your shopping, stay for a chat, meet friends for coffee...
